Internet Speed Test Results: What's Normal for Your Area?

Published by Uplink Wireless | Serving Henderson County & East Texas

You ran a speed test. Now what? If you're in Athens, Mabank, or Henderson County, understanding what those numbers actually mean โ€” and what's normal for your area โ€” can save you a lot of frustration.

How to Run a Speed Test the Right Way

Step-by-step speed test process:

  1. Use a wired connection โ€” plug your laptop directly into the router with an Ethernet cable.
  2. Close everything else โ€” no streaming, no downloads, no other devices using the internet.
  3. Use a reliable test site โ€” fast.com (Netflix), speedtest.net (Ookla), or Google's built-in speed test.
  4. Run it 3 times โ€” take the average.
  5. Test at different times โ€” morning, afternoon, and evening.

What the Numbers Mean

Download Speed

How fast data comes to you. Affects streaming, browsing, video calls, and downloads.

Upload Speed

How fast data goes from you. Affects video calls, sending files, and working from home.

Ping (Latency)

How long it takes for a signal to travel to a server and back. Lower is better.

Jitter

Variation in ping over time. High jitter causes choppy video calls.

Ready to Fix This?

Book a Network Health Check โ€” I'll come out, test everything, and tell you exactly what's wrong and what it costs to fix. No obligation.
