Metal Buildings and WiFi: Why Signal Dies at the Shop Door
Published by Uplink Wireless | Serving Henderson County & East Texas
You step out of your house with full WiFi bars. Walk 50 feet to the shop. Open the door. Zero signal. Every time.
Metal walls and roofs create what's essentially a Faraday cage that blocks wireless signals almost completely. But this is one of the most straightforward problems to solve.
Solutions (From Simple to Professional)
Point-to-Point Wireless Bridge + Indoor AP
A wireless bridge sends your internet signal from the house to the outside of the metal building. Then an access point inside distributes WiFi within it.
Cost: $150โ$300 for equipment + installation
Direct Ethernet Cable Run
Run an ethernet cable from your router to an access point inside the metal building.
Cost: $100โ$400 depending on distance and burial
Powerline Adapter + Access Point
Powerline adapters use your electrical wiring to carry network data.
Cost: $60โ$120
